LANCASTER, PA - Franklin & Marshall's Lizzy Denenberg (So., Wilmington, DE/Sanford School) dominated Annaliese Wiederspahn 6-0, 6-0 at #6 singles as the women's tennis team defeated Haverford College 5-4 in the Centennial Conference season finale.
F&M (10-4, 8-2 Centennial Conference) took control of the match early as the pairing of Barbara Bee (Fr., Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) and Denenberg picked up an 8-1 win at #2 doubles to tie the match at 1-1 following a Haverford win at #1. At #3, Marie Papalia (Jr., Chatham, NJ/Chatham) and Beth Conner (Jr., Leawood, KS/Shawnee Mission East) rolled to an 8-5 win as F&M carried a 2-1 lead into singles play.
In singles, the Fords earned wins at #1, 3 and 5, but Gaskins earned a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win at #2, Bee handled Sarah Loeffler 6-1, 6-2 at #4 and Denenberg picked up a shutout at #6.
Historically, the win clinches a 10-4 regular season record for the best mark since the 2000 team finished 12-2. Further, the double-digit win season marks the 17th over the last 20 years at F&M and the 22nd during the program's 30-year history.
Franklin & Marshall will conclude the season on April 23-25 at the Centennial Conference Tennis Championships hosted by Swarthmore, Haverford and Bryn Mawr Colleges.
