ORLANDO, FL - Franklin & Marshall College swept the doubles and singles matches to hand Division II Bentley College a 9-0 defeat in women's tennis.
The match marked the first time that Franklin & Marshall and Bentley ever met in women's tennis since the Diplomats earned varsity status in 1974.
The Diplomats (3-1, 0-0 Centennial Conference) breezed to the win as Franklin & Marshall swept through the doubles matches.
In singles, #1 Katie Gaskins (So., Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) downed Lauren Ginsberg 6-0, 6-1, while Barbara Bee (So., Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) defeated Bonnie Nelson 6-0, 6-0 at #3 and Marie Papalia (Sr., Chatham, NJ/Chatham) notched a 6-4, 6-1 victory at #2 over Michelle Robbat. At #4, Beth Conner (Sr., Leawood, KS/Shawnee Mission East) dropped Rian Lanfield 6-1, 6-1, while Lizzy Denenberg (Jr., Wilmington, DE/Sanford School) handled Nicole Hallisey 6-0, 6-1 at #5 and Christina Henkel (Fr., Hatboro, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) defeated Lauren Benson 6-0, 6-1 at #6.
Franklin & Marshall will continue the season on March 14 in Orlando versus Drew University.
