ORLANDO, FL - Franklin & Marshall College completed its spring break trip 3-0 as the Diplomats swept the doubles and singles matches to defeat Drew University 9-0 in women's tennis.
The match marked the first time that Franklin & Marshall and Drew ever met in women's tennis since the Diplomats earned varsity status in 1974.
The Diplomats (4-1, 0-0 Centennial Conference) breezed to the win as Franklin & Marshall swept through the doubles matches.
In singles, #1 Katie Gaskins (So., Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) downed Crystal Vo 6-3, 60, while Barbara Bee (So., Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) defeated Alex Holzman 6-2, 6-2 at #3 and Marie Papalia (Sr., Chatham, NJ/Chatham) notched a 6-3, 0-6, 6-3 victory at #2 over Fiona Burns. At #4, Beth Conner (Sr., Leawood, KS/Shawnee Mission East) dropped Dragana Trivic 6-1, 6-1, while Lizzy Denenberg (Jr., Wilmington, DE/Sanford School) handled Jen Williams 6-4, 6-1 at #5 and Christina Henkel (Fr., Hatboro, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) defeated Meghan Weimer 6-4, 6-1 at #6.
Franklin & Marshall will continue the season on March 29 at home versus Dickinson College in the Centennial Conference season-opener. Match time is set for 3:30 p.m.
