GETTYSBURG, PA - Franklin & Marshall College won five of the six singles matches and two doubles matches as the Diplomats defeated Gettysburg College 7-2 in Centennial Conference women's tennis action.
The win improves Franklin & Marshall to 25-10 against Gettysburg and raises Diplomats' head coach Patty Epps record to 366-125 during her 27 year career at the College.
For Gettysburg, Ali Moyer teamed with Sara Marian Seibert to notch the lone doubles point for the Bullets (4-4, 3-3 Centennial Conference), winning 8-2 at the #1 slot before capturing a 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 victory at #2 singles.
The Diplomats took control of the match in doubles as the pairing of Jenna Ishkanian (Fr., Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) and Lizzy Denenberg (Jr., Wilmington, DE/Sanford School) rolled to an 8-1 win at #2 before Marie Papalia (Sr., Chatham, NJ/Chatham) and Beth Conner (Sr., Leawood, KS/Shawnee Mission East) recorded an 8-5 win at #3 to stake Franklin & Marshall to a 2-1 lead.
In singles, Kate Gaskins (So., Richmond, VA/Mills Goodwin) breezed past Seibert 6-3, 6-1 at #1, Barbara Bee (So., Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) handled Kate Ferraro 5-7, 6-2, 10-4 at #3 and Conner knocked off Caroline Kunkle 6-4, 6-2 at #4. Denenberg and Christina Henkel (Fr., Hatboro, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) finished out the singles matches with victories over Laura Holland (6-4, 6-0) and Shelly Gottesfeld (6-2, 7-5) at #5 and #6, respectively.
Franklin & Marshall (9-2, 5-1 Centennial Conference) will continue the season on April 16 at home versus Washington College. Match time is set for noon.
