ORLANDO, FL - Franklin & Marshall College swept the doubles and took four of six singles matches to down Stevens Institute of Technology 7-2, but fell 6-3 to Wisconsin-Lacrosse as the Diplomats split a pair of women's tennis matches in Florida.
In the first ever meeting between the two programs, F&M swept through doubles with a 9-7 win at #1, an 8-2 victory at #2 and a default win at #3.
In singles, the Diplomats rolled through the matches as #1 Katie Gaskins (Jr., Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) fell to Dana Bacalla 6-0, 6-2, while Lizzy Denenberg (Sr., Wilmington, DE/Sanford School) stopped Whitney Bender 6-0, 6-0 at #2 and Barbara Bee (Jr., Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) defeated Jin Bai 6-2, 6-2 at #3.
At #4, Dani Barish (Fr., Brooklandville, MD/St. Paul's School for Girls) fell 6-3, 7-6 (6), while Jenna Ishkanian (So., Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) and Margaret Seaman (Jr., Syracuse, NY/Northwest Academy) closed out the win for the Diplomats with wins at #5 and #6 as F&M improved to 4-0 on the season.
Against Wisconsin-Lacrosse, the Diplomats captured the #2 and #3 doubles matches, but UWL claimed five of the six singles matches to hand Franklin & Marshall a 6-3 defeat in the first meeting between the programs.
Franklin & Marshall (4-1, 0-0 Centennial Conference) will continue the season on March 22 at McDaniel College in the Centennial Conference opener. Match time is set for 3:30 p.m.
