Katie Gaskins and Jenna Ishkanian each won their singles match, but 17th ranked Swarthmore took the lion's share of matches to pick up a 6-3 Centennial Conference win over Franklin & Marshall in Lancaster on Sunday. The Diplomats fell to 11-4 (8-2 CC), while Swarthmore climbed to 9-5 (7-1 CC).
Gaskins, ranked 32nd in the South Atlantic region, took the first set 6-4 before dropping the second set 1-6. She rallied in the tiebreaker for a 10-7 win over Rachel Wallwork, who entered the match ranked 16th in the region. Gaskins' second consecutive win gives her a 12-6 record on the year.
Gaskins partnered with Barbara Bee for F&M's lone win in doubles competition. The pair needed a 7-3 tiebreaker for a 9-8 win over Rachel Wallwork and Waverly Lutz.
Ishkanian's 6-4, 6-2 defeat of Rebecca Committo was her fifth straight win, leaving the junior with an 8-1 record in Centennial competition, and 11-2 overall.
After trading 6-4 sets, Bee went to the tiebreaker with Melissa Matthews at second singles. Matthews came away with the decision by virtue of a 10-7 edge in the tiebreaker.
Franklin & Marshall concludes its regular season with the loss. The Diplomats will be in action next week at Johns Hopkins University for the Centennial Conference Championships.
