LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall's women's tennis team
earned four singles and one doubles match in edging out a 5-4
Centennial Conference (CC) win over Bryn Mawr on Friday. The
Diplomats move to 2-10 (2-5 CC), while the Owls dropped to 3-15
(2-6 CC).
Dana Russo and Valeri Harteg won in straight sets in the middle
of the ladder. Russo (3-10, 2-6 CC) won the first set 6-1 and was
up 5-4 when Mimi Nguyen retired from the match at third singles.
Harteg (6-11, 4-4 CC) defeated Priscila Roney 6-1, 6-4 at fourth
singles. The pair (4-6, 3-5 CC) of Diplomats combined for an 8-1
win over Roney and Elizabeth VerHoeve at second doubles.
Kelsey Tylus and Shannon Littlefield needed three sets to
dispatch with their opposition. Tylus () captured the first set
tiebreaker 10-7 to take the early lead, but Anna Perocchi took the
second set 6-4. Tylus (6-7, 3-5 CC) then took over the second
singles match with a decisive win in the decisive set, 6-1.
Littlefield (5-11, 2-6 CC) also dropped the middle set to Leah Raj
at fifth singles.
The Diplomats return to action on Wednesday against Dickinson
before wrapping up the season next weekend at Swarthmore.
