CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Franklin & Marshall fell to Washington College 7-2 in its Centennial Conference (CC) women's tennis opener on Saturday. The Diplomats drop to 3-4 (0-1 CC), while the Shorewomen, who are ranked No. 7 in the Atlantic Region, improve to 8-1 (3-0 CC).
Nina Simic tallied a straight-set victory at No. 5 singles, while Shannon Littlefield notched the other F&M point with a win by forfeit at No. 6. Simic downed Amy Stevens 6-1, 6-3 for her third straight singles win.
Two other Diplomats stretched their singles opponents to third sets, but fell short. At No. 4, Dana Sleeper was outlasted by Kat Cohen 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, while Anya Sahaydachny was defeated by Campbell McNicol 4-6, 7-5, 10-1 at the No. 2 spot.
F&M returns to the court on Tuesday as it hosts its home opener against Johns Hopkins in CC action. Match time is set for 4:00 pm.
