COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall swept past Ursinus 9-0 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's tennis action on Saturday. The Diplomats improve to 6-8, 3-5 CC with the victory, while the Bears drop to 4-12, 0-8 CC.
The Diplomats cruised to wins at each of the three doubles positions to take a 3-0 lead. Julia Fiala and Shannon Littlefield took down Jami Dumler and Renee Tornea at No. 3, 8-1, while the tandems of Danielle Weiner and Anya Sahaydachny (No. 1) and Dana Sleeper and Megan FitzMaurice (No. 2) each rolled to 8-3 triumphs.
In singles play, Fiala registered her second convincing win of the day with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Dana McDonough at the No. 4 position to move to 8-5 on the year. Sleeper and Weiner also notched a straight set wins, with Sleeper defeating Audrey Whitebloom with scores of 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 and Weiner downing Jimena Talavera 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 at No. 1.
Sahaydachny outlasted Jessica Tyrrell in a three-setter at No. 2, 6-2, 2-6, 10-7, while Littlefield also shook off a second-set defeat to win in three sets over Dumler at No. 5, 6-2, 1-6, 10-7. Victoria Lussier took down Tornea at No. 6 to complete the shutout, 8-2.
The Diplomats return to the court on Wednesday at Dickinson in CC action at 4:00 pm.
