LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall dropped a 7-2 decision to visiting Swarthmore in Centennial Conference (CC) women's tennis action on Saturday. The Diplomats fall to 4-8, 1-5 CC, while the Garnet, ranked 11th in the Atlantic South Region, move to 7-2, 6-0 CC.
Dana Sleeper and Nina Simic recorded the lone wins of the day in singles play for F&M. At the No. 4 position, Sleeper downed Katie Samuelson in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, while Simic outlasted Gayatri Iyengar in three sets at No. 6 with scores of 1-6, 6-2, 6-4.
At No. 5 singles, Julia Fiala nabbed a 6-3 triumph in the first set, but Stephanie Chia responded with 7-6, 6-0 wins in the final two sets to secure the victory for the Garnet.
The Diplomats return to the court on Wednesday at home against Gettysburg in CC action.
