ORLANDO, Fla. - Franklin & Marshall's women's tennis team opened its spring slate with a pair of losses on its spring break trip to Florida, falling to TCNJ 9-0 on Sunday and dropping a tight 5-4 contest to St. Michael's on Wednesday.

TCNJ blanked the Diplomats on Sunday in their season opener, but the contest had its fair share of close matches. At No. 5 singles, Emily Gruenberg began her career with a narrow 6-4, 6-4 loss to Alex Bologno, while No. 6 Meredith Lackey was also edged in two tight sets, 6-4, 6-3, by Sarah Lippincott.

At No. 2 doubles, the tandem of Dana Sleeper and Lackey put up a valiant effort but fell 8-5 to Emma Allen and Jazmin Muniz-Cadorette.

Against St. Michael's, F&M controlled the bottom half of the singles lineup as Julia Fiala (No. 4), Gruenberg (No. 5), and Nina Simic (No. 6) each came away victorious. Fiala downed Jean-Marie McGrath in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, while Gruenberg and Simic both bounced back to win in three sets after dropping the first. Gruenberg topped Alexandra Sulkin 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, while Simic edged Caroline Martin 1-6, 6-1, 6-2.

The No. 1 doubles team of Anya Sahaydachny and Megan FitzMaurice defeated Emily McGee and McGrath by a score of 8-5. Fiala and Gruenberg were nipped at No. 3, 8-6.

The Diplomats are scheduled to return to the court at home against Lebanon Valley next Wednesday.
