F&M Doubles Up Muhlenberg

LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall defeated Muhlenberg 6-3 in the Centennial Conference (CC) women's tennis opener for both squads on Saturday. The Diplomats even their record at 2-2 overall and move to 1-0 in the CC with the triumph, while the Mules drop to 0-2, 0-1 CC. 

Strong doubles play lifted F&M to the win as the Diplomats claimed each of the three doubles points. The No. 1 tandem of Anya Sahaydachny and Megan FitzMaurice recorded an 8-4 win over Nina Sanders and Emily Szulman, while Julia Fiala and Emily Gruenberg teamed up at No. 3 to down Jennifer Goldberg and Gabriela Contino 8-3. 

Dana Sleeper and Meredith Lackey completed the doubles sweep for F&M at No. 2 with an 8-6 win over Sharen Resnikoff and Amanda von Taube. 

In singles play, F&M controlled the bottom half of the lineup as Fiala, Gruenberg and Lackey each came away with straight-set victories. Fiala topped Resnikoff at the No. 4 position 6-3, 6-4, Gruenberg defeated von Taube 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5 and Lackey handled Contino at No. 6 by a 6-0, 6-1 margin. 

Sahaydachny's match with Sanders at No. 1 stretched to a third-set tiebreaker before Sanders came away with the 6-2, 6-7 (2), 10-3 triumph. 

The Diplomats return to the court on Wednesday at home against Penn St.-Berks at 4:00 p.m.
