F&M Defeats Bullets

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall captured all three doubles points en route to a 6-3 triumph over Gettysburg in Centennial Conference (CC) women's tennis action on Wednesday. The Diplomats move to 6-7 overall and 3-4 in CC play with the win, while the Bullets drop to 8-5, 3-4 CC.

F&M swept doubles play to jump out to a 3-0 edge early on. The Diplomats dropped just seven games throughout the three spots, with the No. 2 tandem of Dana Sleeper and Meredith Lackey earning a 8-1 win and the No. 3 duo of Emily Gruenberg and Julia Fiala claiming an 8-2 win. The No. 1 team of Anya Sahaydachny and Megan FitzMaurice tallied an 8-4 victory to make it 3-0 F&M.

Fiala, Gruenberg, and Lackey also captured singles wins in straight sets. Fiala topped Meg Kelly 6-2, 7-5 at No. 3, Gruenberg defeated Charrisha Watkins 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5, and Lackey downed Kelsey Boyce by a score of 6-2, 6-3 to round out the Diplomats' wins.

At No. 1 singles, Sahaydachny lost a tight three-setter, 5-7, 6-2, 10-7 to Caroline Haymans.

F&M returns to the courts on Saturday at home against Ursinus at 12:00 p.m.
