F&M Rolls Past Ursinus

LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall cruised to a 9-0 victory over Ursinus on Saturday in Centennial Conference (CC) women's tennis action on Saturday. With the victory, the Diplomats even their record at 7-7 overall and 4-4 in the CC, vaulting themselves into the thick of the CC playoff race. Ursinus falls to 5-11, 0-8 CC with the defeat.

The Diplomats came out strong in doubles, sweeping past the Bears while giving up just four games at the three positions. The No. 2 team of Dana Sleeper and Meredith Lackey earned an 8-0 victory, while Anya Sahaydachny and Megan FitzMaurice (No. 1) and Julia Fiala and Emily Gruenberg (No. 3) each teamed up for 8-2 triumphs.

In singles, F&M captured five of the six spots in straight sets. Sahaydachny pulled out a tight first set and cruised in the second over Heather McMasters, 7-5, 6-0, while FitzMaurice topped Audrey Whitebloom 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2.

Fiala defeated Jessica Tyrrell at the No. 3 spot 6-3, 6-0, Gruenberg took down Stephane-Jane Seabra at No. 5 6-3, 6-1, while Lackey also claimed a straight-set victory at No. 6 with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Caroline Lippe. Dana Sleeper earned a hard-fought win at No. 4, defeating BreAnna Bashaw in a third-set supertiebreaker, 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7).

The Diplomats are back in action at home on Thursday as they host CC foe Dickinson at 4:00 p.m.
