NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 18 Franklin & Marshall women's squash team opened up competition at the Yale Round Robin on Friday evening, falling to No. 16 Middlebury by a 7-2 margin. The loss moved the Diplomats' record to 4-8 on the season, while the Panthers improved to 6-3.
Roxanna Mead (No. 3) and Dana Rapisarda (No. 9) tallied both of F&M's victories on the day. Mead pulled ahead at 2-0 after recording scores of 11-8, 11-8 in her opening two games until Middlebury's Anna Wymard stormed back to tie the match with wins of 11-2, 11-9. Knotted at 2-2, Mead fought hard in the fifth game and came away with a narrow 12-10 win.
Rapisarda had little trouble in her matchup, sweeping Audrey Allen by an 11-8, 11-6, 11-7 score. Dulakshi Elikewela was the only other Diplomat to win a game on the evening. Battling at No. 2, Elikewela fell by an 11-7, 11-7, 3-11, 11-7 mark.
Action continues at the Yale Round Robin today with contests against Williams at 1:30 p.m. and Bowdoin at 4:30 p.m.
