PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 7 Franklin & Marshall men's squash team gave No. 10 Princeton all it could handle, dropping a narrow 6-3 contest on Saturday afternoon. The loss was the first of the season for the Diplomats (3-1), while the Tigers moved to 1-0.
Alex Arjoon came up big at No. 3, taking down Princeton's David Hoffman by a 3-1 tally (11-9, 11-7, 6-11, 11-9). Pedro Veiga de Almeida followed at No. 4 with a 3-0 shutout (11-7, 11-2, 11-4), while Brian Henry (No. 7) picked up F&M's other win on the day with a 3-2 (8-11, 11-6, 11-4, 2-11, 11-8) marathon victory.
Dylan Cunningham took his opponent to the wire at No. 2, winning the first game at 11-9 and eventually taking a 2-1 lead in the match after dropping the second at 11-6 and winning the third at 11-8. However, the Tigers' Tyler Osborne fought back with wins in the final two frames (11-5, 11-7) for the 3-2 win.
Kareem Nabil Abdel Mawla gave his opponent all he could handle at No. 8, narrowly falling by a 3-2 score (8-11, 11-5, 11-5, 6-11, 11-6), while Christopher Bown (No. 9) nearly took the third game in his matchup, but fell by a 3-0 tally (11-7, 11-4, 12-10).
F&M returns to the Mayser Center tomorrow for a doubleheader. The Diplomats are set to face off against No. 54 Dickinson at 9:00 a.m., before taking on No. 6 Columbia at noon.
