Red Devils Edge Diplomats

CARLISLE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's women's tennis team fell to Dickinson by a narrow 5-4 score on Wednesday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) competition. The loss snapped a six-match winning streak for the Diplomats and dropped their record to 12-5, 7-2 CC, while the Red Devils remained unbeaten at home and improved to 8-7, 6-3 CC.

F&M took the 2-1 lead after doubles play when Caitlin Rummelsburg and Anya Sahaydachny paired at No. 1 for the dominant 8-1 win, while Nicole Russo and Megan FitzMaurice brought home the other victory with an 8-4 score at No. 2.

In singles action, the Diplomats earned wins from Russo at No. 2 (6-4, 6-4) and Tara Buchney at the No. 6 spot (7-5, 6-0). Dickinson clinched the match at the No. 1 position when Shannon Lavery edged out Rummelsburg in three games (6-1, 4-6, 6-2).

Despite the loss, F&M has clinched a spot in the field of five teams for the upcoming CC Tournament. The Diplomats close out the regular season on Friday when F&M celebrates senior day by hosting Bryn Mawr at 4:00 p.m.
