ORLANDO, Fla. – Franklin & Marshall began its spring break trip in Orlando, Fla. on Monday afternoon where the Diplomats were edged by Grinnell 5-4. F&M fell to 1-3, while the Pioneers improved to 11-7.
Doug Kaplan and Nolan Bacchieri began doubles action from the No. 1 spot by being narrowly defeated by Elliott Czarnecki and Tommy Pitcher 8-6. At No. 3 doubles, Vasant Rajamanickam and Evan Drapeau gave Samuel Catanzaro and Will Hamilton all they could handle, but eventually fell 9-7 in a thrilling match.
Kaplan was victorious from the No. 1 singles spot at 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (7-4), while Bacchieri breezed through his opponent 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2. Jack Rothman won a tough two-setter 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) from No. 3, and Will Samuels defeated Rob Storrick 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.
The Diplomats continue their spring break trip on Wednesday when F&M takes on Colby-Sawyer at 11:00 a.m. before finishing the trip on Thursday versus SCAD – Atlanta at 1:00 p.m. in Orlando, Fla.
