LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's women's tennis team cruised in its Centennial Conference (CC) opener, overmatching Muhlenberg on Saturday afternoon by a 7-2 score at Brooks Tennis Center. The Diplomats improved to 5-1, 1-0 CC with the win, while the Mules fell to 1-3, 0-1 CC.
Doubles play was firmly in F&M's favor as the Diplomats took a commanding 3-0 lead in the match with a trio of dominant victories. Sara Haas and Caitlin Rummelsburg led the way with an 8-0 shutout at No. 1, while Nicole Russo and Dana Sleeper at No. 2 and the duo of Tara Buchney and Emily Gruenberg at No. 3, each came away with 8-1 decisions.
Russo also delivered a singles win at No. 1 when her opponent was forced to retire in the second set with Russo ahead with a 6-1 victory in the first. Rummelsburg was solid at No. 3 with a straight set win (6-3, 6-3), while Buchney rolled at No. 4 with a 6-0, 6-2 score. Gruenberg rounded out action, taking down her opponent by a 6-1, 6-1 tally.
