Hopkins Topples F&M

BALTIMORE, Md. – Franklin & Marshall fell to the nation's No. 2 team Johns Hopkins by a 9-0 score on Wednesday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) women's tennis action. The loss dropped the Diplomats (ranked No. 15 in the Atlantic South Region) to 5-3, 1-2 CC on the year, while the Blue Jays improved to 7-1, 3-0 CC. 

Hopkins rolled to a trio of wins in doubles play for the 3-0 lead heading into singles. Tara Buchney proved to be a tough out at the No. 4 position in the lineup, capturing a 6-2 victory in the opening set for an early lead. However, the Blue Jays' Macie Wilkins forced the super tiebreaker with a 6-2 score of her own in the second and closed out the contest with a 1-0 (10-7) score. 

Megan FitzMaurice also battled at the No. 5 spot in the order, taking her first set at 6-3. Hopkins' Shannon Herndon evened the match with a 6-0 shutout in the second set, before coming away victorious in the tiebreaker at 1-0 (10-5).

The Diplomats return to the court on Saturday, traveling to Haverford for a 12:00 p.m. contest.
