F&M Comes up Short in CC Semifinals

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Franklin & Marshall's women's tennis team had it season come to a close on Saturday afternoon, falling to Washington by a 6-1 score in the Centennial Conference (CC) Semifinals.

It marks the second consecutive season the Diplomats' year came to an end in the semifinals as F&M wraps up action at 12-4, while the Shorewomen (14-2) advance into tomorrow's finals against the winner of No. 4 Haverford or No. 1 Johns Hopkins at 3:00 p.m. in Baltimore. 

The match was close following the conclusion of doubles play as the duo of Tara Buchney and Emily Gruenberg registered an 8-6 win at No. 3, however Washington entered singles competition with a 2-1 advantage. 

The Shorewomen went ahead 4-1 after sweeping both sets at No. 1 and No. 2. Allysan Breece battled at No. 6 and came back to tie the matchup with a 6-2 win in the second set after being blanked 6-0 in the first. However, the Shorewomens' Blair King managed to take the third by a 6-1 tally to win the match for Washington. 

No. 4 singles was playing match point when No. 6 secured the contest, so another point was awarded to Washington's total score. For the complete results from today's CC Playoff competition, click here.
