LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's women's tennis team had a three-match winning streak snapped with a narrow 6-3 loss against Centennial Conference (CC) opponent Swarthmore on Saturday afternoon in Lancaster.
The defeat dropped the Diplomats to 5-10, 4-3 CC on the year while the No. 13 regionally-ranked Garnet improved to 6-5, 5-1 CC. Saturday's contest served as senior day for the three-member class of Emily Gruenberg, Gabrielle Viscounte and Rachel Weinstein.
By the Numbers
F&M found itself in a 3-0 hole following doubles action, including a heartbreaking 9-8 (7-3) defeat of Gavriel Rubenstein and Allysan Breece at No. 3. Nicole Russo's straight set win at No. 1 singles brought the Diplomats to within one, but the Garnet sealed the win with sweeps at No.'s 2-3.
Emily Gruenberg (No. 4) and Rubenstein earned the other singles wins on the day with straight-set decisions.
