FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Franklin & Marshall's women's tennis team, ranked No. 20 in the Atlantic South Region, upset No. 9 regionally ranked Salisbury by a 6-3 score, before falling to Mary Washington (No. 15 in the nation, No. 5 region) by a 9-0 tally on Saturday afternoon. 

The Diplomats moved to 1-1 with the split in the opening day of the team's spring season. 

By the Numbers (Salisbury) 

F&M dominated doubles competition against the Sea Gulls, opening the match with three-straight wins to give the Diplomats a commanding 3-0 edge heading into singles. 

The bottom part of F&M's order proved to be the difference as the No.4-6 spots all earned wins on the day, including Gavriel Rubenstein's match-clinching win at No. 5 in straight sets.

Following the Eagles' 3-0 sweep in doubles, Mary Washington won each of the nine singles matchups in straight sets. Allison Wolters (No. 1) nearly knotted her match at 1-1 but came up short by a 7-6 (7-5) score in the tiebreaker.
