A Look at the Bracket

Friday's match against Wesleyan marks a rematch of last year's Walker Cup First Round when the Diplomats dispatched Wesleyan by a dominant 8-1 score, which included six F&M sweeps.

The winner advances to the Semifinals on Saturday to take on the winner of No. 17 Dickinson and No. 24 Colby at 11:15 a.m. F&M is 0-2 against Dickinson on the year after dropping a pair of heart-wrenching 5-4 decisions on Nov. 11 and Feb. 10, while the Diplomats rolled Colby by an 8-1 tally on Jan. 27.

The Championship match of the eight-team bracket is slated for an 11:30 a.m. start on Sunday.

Walker Cup History

F&M returns to the Walker Cup, an annual matchup of the nation's No. 17-24 teams, for the second-consecutive year and the third time since the 2013-14 season. The Diplomats won the Walker Cup in 2011 after defeating Hamilton by a 5-4 tally in the finals. Last year, F&M was the bracket's top seed and reached the finals before falling to Amherst with a narrow 5-4 loss.

The bracket is named after Dale Walker, who coached the Yale's women's team to National Titles in 1986 and 1992. For a complete history of the Walker Cup, click here.

A Look at F&M

The Diplomats enter the weekend with a 2-14 overall record. However, both of those wins occurred in the team's previous four competitions. In the season finale, F&M came up just short in a spirited 5-4 loss to Dickinson on Feb. 10.

Sherilyn Yang leads the Diplomats at the No. 1 position with an impressive 9-7 record and a two-match winning streak. Ellen Verry is second on the team with six wins, competing primarily at the No.'s 2-4 spots on the ladder, while Katherine Galambos has won three straight matches at No.'s 4-5.
