CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Franklin & Marshall women's tennis picked up wins from the bottom part of their singles lineup to nudge past Washington 6-3 in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats (3-5, 2-1 CC) pulled out victories from its Nos. 3, 4, and 5 players in singles, while also notching a victory at No. 1 doubles over the Shorewomen (6-3, 0-1 CC) to clinch.
F&M got started with a tough 8-6 victory at No. 1 doubles by Jenna Harrison and Mackenzie Sherman - bumped up from their normal spot at No. 2. A victory by default at No. 3 doubles gave the Diplomats a 2-1 lead heading into singles.
A dominant 6-1, 6-1 victory by Jenna Harrison at No. 3, followed by a 6-3, 6-0 victory from Ella Mure clinched the four points needed. Hayley Bidwell earned a 6-3, 7-6 win at No. 5 to add insurance for F&M. The Diplomats also picked up a point by default at the #6 slot.
F&M continues its stretch of CC play on Wednesday at Dickinson beginning at 4:00 p.m. in Carlisle.
