ORLANDO, Fla. – The Franklin & Marshall women's tennis team won two of the three doubles matches and five singles matches in straight sets to defeat Ithaca by a convincing 7-2 score on Wednesday evening. The Diplomats' victory gives them a 2-1 record during the Spring Break trip following the team's final match in the Sunshine State.
Switching the doubles pairings around paid immediate dividends as Cassidy Landau and Mackenzie Sherman were 8-4 winners at the top of the lineup. Presley Daggett and Sammi Perry helped give F&M the lead going into singles play as they were 8-5 victors during the third doubles match.
The Diplomats swept the Nos. 2-5 singles matches, with all those victories coming in straight sets. Amelia Squires has now won two straight matches at No. 6 following her 6-2, 6-3 victory on Wednesday. Mackenzie Sherman (No. 2), Rebecca Bellick (No. 3), Clara March Okuyama (No. 4), and Hayley Bidwell (No. 5) all won their first matches of the spring dual season to aid the team's victory.
Women's tennis will now have just over a week before returning to competition with a trip to Virginia where the Diplomats will play Washington and Lee (Mar. 25) and Mary Washington (Mar. 26) in back-to-back days.
