Women's Tennis Sweeps Aside Dickinson, 9-0

CARLISLE, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's tennis team made it five straight Centennial Conference victories on Tuesday night with a 9-0 sweep of Dickinson. The victory moved F&M over the .500 mark for the season as the Diplomats blanked the Red Devils on the road.

The Diplomats started off the match with a clean sweep of doubles that only got stronger down the lineup. Cassidy Landau and Mackenzie Sherman picked up a hard-fought 8-6 win in a battle of regional powers. Jenna Harrison and Clara March Okuyama, along with Rebecca Bellick and Amelia Squires, were dominant in their victories. Both F&M's second and third doubles teams are undefeated when paired together in Centennial Conference duals.

That success continued in singles as five of the Diplomats' six victories came in straight sets. Another key regional battle went to the Diplomats at No. 1 where Cassidy Landau was a 6-2, 6-4 winner. Her win featured the senior winning the last five games of her second set to erase an early deficit and avoid a 10-point tiebreak. Reigning CC Player of the Week Jenna Harrison won by that same 6-2, 6-4 score.

Mackenzie Sherman did need a 10-point tiebreak at No. 3 singles, but was successful nonetheless as she doubled up her opponent in the decisive battle to move to a perfect 5-0 in Centennial Conference singles play. Clara March Okuyama also remained unbeaten through four CC singles matches, while Rebecca Bellick and Hayley Bidwell dropped no more than a single game per set during their matches. Both of those players now have four singles victories in Centennial Conference action.

Women's tennis will put its winning streak back on the line this Saturday during a key Centennial Conference test when the Diplomats host Haverford at 12 p.m. noon on the Brooks Tennis Courts.
