MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The No. 13 Franklin & Marshall women's squash team opened up day one at the Middlebury Round Robin on Saturday with a trio of victories, taking down No. 15 Bates in a narrow 5-4 contest, shutting down No. 24 Wellesley with a 9-0 score and ending with a 9-0 blanking of No. 27 Connecticut College.

Bates offered F&M its stiffest competition on the day, taking the Diplomats to the wire in their opening matchup of the round robin. Following a pair of losses at the top of the order, No.'s 3-5 came up huge for F&M by each adding a decision to the win column. Lauren Johnston (No. 3) captured an 11-5 victory in the fifth game for the 3-2 win, while Emily Caldwell swept her opponent at No. 4 and Dulakshi Elikewela (No. 5) dealt her foe a 3-1 defeat (11-4, 7-11, 11-9, 11-7).
Jazmin Matos at No. 8 and Kate O'Brien at No. 9 both tallied sweeps to pace the bottom portion of the lineup and deliver the victory to F&M. Later in the day against No. 24 Wellesley, the Diplomats cruised to three-game sweeps in each of their nine matchups. The bottom of the lineup was particularly dominant as Cris Margaret Frias Gonzalez won handily at No. 7 by an 11-0, 11-2, 11-3 score, Krista Lancione rolled at No. 8 by an 11-3, 11-1, 11-1 tally and Hope Johnson was impressive with an 11-3, 11-0, 11-4 mark.
The Diplomats wrapped up action with another strong performance against No. 27 Connecticut College, earning three-game sweeps in seven of their nine contests in the match. Matos faced little resistance at No. 5 with an 11-5, 11-3, 11-0 sweep, while Katherine Perry broke a 1-1 tie with wins of 11-7 and 11-9 at No. 4.
Competition at the Middlebury Round Robin concludes tomorrow with a pair of contests. F&M opens against Hamilton at 9:00 a.m. before taking on host Middlebury at 11:30 a.m.
