In his career as defensive coordinator at Franklin &Marshall College under head coaches Bob Curtis and Tom Gilburg, AlBrooks compiled a 177-113-2 record and guided his team to the 1976MAC South title; the 1986, 1987, 1988, 1993 and 1995 CentennialConference titles; and the 1987 and 1989 ECAC titles. It was underBrooks' tutelage that every F&M defensive record was set.

In 1974, his team allowed just 13 yards on 48 plays in a gameversus Swarthmore, while in 1993, his team set a College record byallowing just 170.6 yards of total offense per game. The 1994defense held opponents to 48.8 yards of total rushing offense pergame. Brooks has mentored four All-American, two Hall of Famers,two Academic All-Americans and saw two student-athletes move on toplay professionally. In honor of Brooks, the Franklin &Marshall Defensive MVP Award was renamed after him in 2004. A 1960graduate of Northwest Missouri, he was an All-Conference linebackerand end, while being named captain his senior year.
