Mergardt is known as the most prolific scorer in F&M men'slacrosse history. He was an All-American selection in 1995 and 1996and was the Centennial Conference leading goal scorer all fouryears of his career, making him the only player in MAC, CentennialConference and Franklin & Marshall history to do so. Hefinished his career with 192 goals, 45 assists and 237 points torank second in points behind Hall of Famer Jon Dale (1990). Some ofhis other records include: goals in a game-13 vs. Dickinson in1995; goals in a season-61 in 1995; goals in a career-192.

Mergardt led the teams to a 32-22 record during his four-yeartenure, as the Diplomats were ranked in the Top 10 in 1995 and 1996and in the Top 20 all four years he was here. In 1995, he was aUSILA All-American honorable mention selection and led the team toa 12-3 record. In 1996, he was USILA All-American second teamselection and led the team to a 9-4 record while scoring 51 goals.That year, he was 10th in the nation in goals per game (3.92) andwon the F&M Outstanding Single Sport Achievement Award for hisfour-year performance in men's lacrosse.
