Sandy Swope '83

One of the college's greatest female athletes and a graduate ofnearby J.P. McCaskey High School in Lancaster, Swope lettered andwon multiple championships in field hockey and lacrosse. Afour-year starter and Middle Atlantic Conference All-Star, Swopeled the Diplomats field hockey team to a second place finish in1981 and a third place finish in 1982 at the NCAA Division IIIField Hockey National Championships Tournament.

From 1980 to 1982, Franklin and Marshall won three consecutiveMAC titles under Swope's leadership. In 1981, she led F&M to a15-6-3 record and a fifth place finish at the AIAW NationalTournament. However, the 1982 season was her best as she recordedseven goals and six assists in 20 games to earn NCAA All-Tournamentand All-American selection in field hockey. Swope continued anoutstanding senior year by leading the 1983 women's lacrosse teamto a runner-up finish at the USWLA Division III Championships.

In 1991, the NCAA Field Hockey Committee recognized Swope andformer teammate Leanne McFalls as being among the best players overthe last decade for their outstanding contributions andachievements in celebration of tem year on NCAA women's athleticchampionships.
