Andy Noel attended Lancaster Catholic High School where he wasthe Pennsylvania Catholic Interscholastic Athletic Association(PCIAA) wrestling champ in 1968, posting a 22-0 record. His highschool dual meet record was 38-4. He matriculated to F&M in thefall of 1968. Freshmen were not eligible for varsity competitionbut wrestled against other freshmen teams. During that season, hewas unbeaten, untied and unscored upon in seven matches before aninjury curtailed his season.

During the next three seasons, Noel was a middleweight starterand consistently gave his best performances against the bestDivision I competition that an EIWA school could find. Noelfinished his varsity career at F&M unbeaten in home duals. Heposted a 31-5 total dual meet record and never lost to an IvyLeague opponent. He climaxed his senior year with a second placefinish in the very competitive EIWA championships, losing to LloydKeaser of Navy, who went on to win a world championship. Andy wasselected as the team's Most Valuable Wrestler of 1972 and receivedthe Uncle Charlie Mayser Award.

He wrestled at 150 pounds and was co-captain as a junior and asenior. Noel graduated from F&M in 1972 with a major in historyand would subsequently receive a Master of Arts from ColgateUniversity. Following graduation, Noel worked as an assistantwrestling coach at Colgate and F&M before becoming the headcoach at Cornell. His 14-year tenure with the Big Red included twoEIWA team championships.

He was inducted into the New York Wrestling Coaches Hall of Famein January 1992. He retired from active coaching in 1988 to assumethe development responsibilities within the Cornell Universityathletic department. After successfully completing this challenge,Noel went into the retail side of the fitness industry beforeaccepting an invitation to return to Cornell in 1997 as anAssociate Director of Athletics. He currently resides in Ithaca,N.Y. with his two children.
