Carson "Gus" Lovett was a two-sport star in both basketball and soccer.

One could say his true calling was to the sport of basketball. He set a college record for points scored in three years, an incredible 1,232 points. It was a common occurrence for him to hit the 40-45 point mark during a game. "Gus" was selected on the Associated Press (AP) All-Pennsylvania Collegiate team following the 1951-52 season, then again as the center on the AP All-State second team after the 1952-53 season. Lovett also set a new Diplomat scoring record during the 52-53 season.

Lovett set a new F&M record of 40 rebounds in a game against Albright on Feb. 7, 1953. The NCAA record technically stands at 36 - which began in 1973 when the three divisions were created - set in 1989.

He went on to play professionally for a time following his stint at F&M - ultimately drafted by the Syracuse Nationals with the sixth pick of the seventh round (60th overall) in the 1954 NBA Draft.

"Gus" worked a senior group underwriter for the Cal-Western Life Insurance Co. and lived in Sacramento, California. Lovett passed away on July 22, 2015.
