He was the captain of the 1950 football team, which was the first Franklin and Marshall football team to ever complete a season undefeated. For two years he was a quarterback before Woody Sponaugle moved him to linebacker. F&M's defense held six opponents scoreless in 1950, and led Sponaugle to say publicly that King was the finest defensive back he had ever coached. He gained All-State and Little All-American recognition in 1950.

King served as the Principal of Manor Millersville/Penn Manor High School from 1980-1984. He is director of guidance for the Penn Manor School District.
