A member of the cross country and track teams, he teamed withfellow Sports Hall of Fame member Eric Holmboe '81 to form the bestone-tow running combination in F&M history. Brian was afour-year letter winner in cross country, three times earningF&M "Most Valuable Runner" honors. Brian finished among the topsix in the Middle Atlantic Conference championships all four years,three times qualifying for the NCAA championships. As a sophomore,Brian set the F&M 4.5-mile course record with 23:19.

His senior season was his best, as he place second in the MACchampionships, first in the NCAA regionals and sixth in thenationals to earn All-American honors. In track, Brian started hissophomore season with the MAC Indoor two-mile title and the F&Mrecord for the three-mile run. Improving each year, Brian won theoutdoor two-mile run at the MAC Championships and set the teamrecord of 31:58.6 in qualifying for the nationals in the10,000-meter run.

As a senior, Gross lowered his mark in the 10,000 by almost aminute (30:59) to again qualify for the national championships andwas named the William J. Iannicelli Award Winner. Brian earned hisB.A. degree in geology and went on to earn an M.S. from Penn StateUniversity. He is now a resource analyst and lives in Arlington,Va.
