One of the greatest runners in school history, Stephen Monaco((Washington, DC/ Fields School) was a four-years standout for theDiplomats in cross country and track. Monaco began his career witha plethora of honors in 1990 as he was named to the NCAAAll-Mid-East Region and All-Region freshman teams in addition tosetting a new Franklin & Marshall College record for five miles(at Baker Campus) in 27:17. He continued his success as a sophomoreby placing 61st at the NCAA Championships, finishing third to earnAll-Region honors at the Mid-East Region Meet and being named teamMost Valuable Runner.

The fall of 1992 was arguably his best season in a Diplomats'uniform, as he earned All-American honors after finishing 0.9seconds behind the meet champion at the NCAA Championships in atime of 24:51.3. The F&M MVP and NCAA Mid-East Region (24:53)and Middle Atlantic Conference (25:18) Champion, he was undefeatedduring his junior year until the NCAA Championships. As a senior in1993, he earned All-American honors by finishing 14th in a time of25:12.3 after winning the NCAA Mid-East Region with a time of24:50.6.

The inaugural Centennial Conference Champion, he was namedF&M MVP for the third year in a row, served a team captain forthe second consecutive season and reset the Franklin & MarshallCollege five mile record in 23:23 at Baker Campus. In track &field, Monaco finished second at the MAC Indoor Championships inthe 1500 meters (4:01.12) and finished sixth (4:06.48) at the NCAAIndoor Track & Field Championships in 1992. In 1993, he placed12th at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 1500 and was the MACChampion in both the 1500 (3:55.42) and the 3000 steeplechase(9:22.27).

He concluded his career by setting the school steeplechase(9:15.4) and 1500 meter (3:49.88) records as a senior while helpingset the school 3200-meter relay mark (7:49.1) and winning the 1500and 3000 in 1994.
