Charles Taylor came from New Oxford, Pa. where his father wasthe principal of schools.  Following military service in WWII,Charles attended Iowa State University, graduating in 1950 with aB.S. degree.  He later would obtain a Master's degree from theUniversity of Maryland.

Charles started his career at Franklin and Marshall in 1955 asan athletic trainer, teacher of Physical Education and live in dormproctor.  In 1962 he was granted tenure and the following yearhe became an Assistant Professor of Physical Education.  From1968 to 1971 he was also the head men’s basketballcoach.  From 1971 to his retirement in 1991, he was the Deanof Athletic Trainers in the Middle Atlantic Region.

Taylor was highly regarded by his colleagues and was belovedamong F&M athletes.  Stories abound about Chuck’streatment of injuries and his ability to diagnose injuries just byseeing an injury occur, his ability to improvise special pads, andthe healing power of cigar ashes sprinkled on a good tape job.

He was also the person that had to adjust from treating onlymale athletes to tending to the needs of both men and women in acoed setting.

Charles Taylor was a legend in his own time.
