Sam's unerring toe kicking points after touchdowns and dropkicks were the best in F&M's history. He “Won nationalacclaim for his record in PATs drop kick points." In 1922 he kicked35 consecutive drop kick PATS which was a national record. In hiscareer he kicked 104 of 106 PAT's in the drop-kick style, which isstill believed to be the national collegiate record. He captainedthe ’25-’26 basketball team and graduated with 11varsity letters (4-basketball, 3-football, 4-baseball).
