Frank Burgess '42

Frank Burgess wrestled at Franklin & Marshall under the 121 pound category. In a four-year career at the College, Burgess compiled a record of 37-1-0. Burgess never lost a match in dual meets through his time in Lancaster.

In NCAA tournament competition, he was a three-time runner-up to national champion Joe McDaniels of Oklahoma A&M College.

He was also the 1938-39 second placer finisher in the Mid-Atlantic Region Tournament, awarded the cup given to the wrestler scoring the most falls in the tournament (5). Burgess was also a member of Sigma Pi fraternity.

With Burgess and teammate Monk Hamsher leading the team, the wrestling team went undefeated during the 1939-40 and 1940-41 seasons. Those teams were tied by Kansas State (1939-40) and by Cornell of Iowa (1940-41).

After graduating with a degree in economics, Burgess served as a wrestling official in the PIAA and the EIWA until 1968. He was also the sales account executive for Servomation Corporation and served in the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce.
