Gregg Weir excelled as a student, leader, and athlete. CoachGeorge McGinnis called him one of the finest backstroke andindividual medley swimmers ever to compete at F&M. In 1971, hewon the Middle Atlantic Conference titles in the 200-yard medley ina time of 2:05.7 and the 100-yard backstroke in a time of:57.3--establishing conference records in both events. That year,he qualified for three events in the NCAA College Divisionchampionships, where he placed 12th in the 100-yard backstroke tobecome F&M's first All-American in swimming. He was a CollegeSenator and was very involved in the early organization of thatcollegial governing body. He was an honors student in chemistry,and at his graduation in 1972, he was awarded the Williamson Medal,the highest honor a graduating senior can receive. Gregg was athird-year student at the Hershey Medical School at the time of hisdeath in 1975. A memorial research endowment fund was establishedat the College in 1978.
