A native of Richmond, Va., Thurman Bullock matriculated atF&M in 1966. His success as a high jumper during his junior andsenior years at F&M was unexpected. He did not compete invarsity track and field during his high school days or his firsttwo years at F&M. He did play basketball for the Diplomats hisfirst two years and was known for his leaping prowess. As afreshman, he jumped 5'10'' in the intramural track meet and thenraised that by 2 inches his sophomore year. Bullock joined thetrack and field team his junior year and had an immediate impact.He was the squad's top scorer with 101 points, gained mostly in thelong jump and high jump.

The team's dual meet record was 8-2. Bullock set three recordsat the "Little Three" championship with a high jump of 6'6'', along jump of 23'2'' and a triple jump of 47'4''. The Diplomatscaptured the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) title by winning thehigh jump with an F&M and conference record (6'7''), the triplejump (44' 10''), and placing second in the long jump (21' 9''). Hissenior year (just his second year of formal competition) was thehigh point of his career. He led the team in scoring for the secondstraight year with 133 points, broke the "Little Three" high jumprecord again with a leap of 6'8'' and set a college standard in thelong jump (23'3'').

The culmination of his college athletic career came at theprestigious Penn Relays, when he won the college division high jumpwith an F&M record of 6'10''. He qualified for the NCAAchampionships. Bullock still holds three F&M track and fieldrecords: high jump (6'10''), long jump (23'3''), and triple jump(47'4''). An economics major, Bullock received his M.S. from TempleUniversity. The Deputy City Comptroller of the City ofPhiladelphia, Bullock lives in Philadelphia with his wife Anne.
