Ernest D. Horner '30

A brother of "Red," Ernest fashioned a remarkable record in theHorner tradition. Wrestling at 145, 155, and 158 pounds, Horner hada record of 25 wins, 2 losses with 12 falls. During his four years,the Diplomats as a team fashioned a record of 28 wins, 5 losses,and 3 ties. The 1928-1929 team was undefeated and Horner was namedto captain for the 1930 squad. A quote from the newspaper in 1928describes a highlight in Horner's career, "It was 'Ernie' Hornerthat provided the first big thrill of the evening. He hung up a newrecord for the home floor by pinning Steckles, star Rutgerswrestler, to the mat in 29 seconds. Horner launched a whirlwindattack and Steckles wiggled and squirmed in a desperate effort tobreak a half Nelson and chancery hold." Following his retirement,Coach Charles Mayser named Horner to the "Charley Mayser All StarTeam." He returned to Boswell following graduation and lives therepresently.
