Charles Pfrommer '59

A Lancaster native, Pfrommer played football and wrestled atMcCaskey High School. Upon graduation, he attended MillersvilleState Teachers College and wrestled in the 175-pound category underCoach Ted Rupp, where he was undefeated at 8-0. The following year,he was inducted into the Marine Corps, where he served withdistinction before receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1954. Afterreturning to Lancaster, he worked at Armstrong Cork and wrestledfor the Maple Grove Athletic Club from 1954-1955 where he againturned in an undefeated record.

In 1956, Pfrommer came to F&M and in his first year wrestled"unofficially" for Coach W. Roy Phillips as a heavyweight and wasundefeated in exhibition matches. Over the next three years, he was24-2-1, one of the best records ever compiled by a heavyweight atF&M. In 1957 and 1958, Pfrommer was 4th at the EIWAChampionships and in 1957, he represented the Diplomats at the NCAANationals.

In competition against Lehigh University-a perennial wrestlingpower-he had a 4-0 record. At the end of his senior year, Pfrommerearned the Uncle Charlie Mayser Award, given to the team?s mostvaluable player at the end of the season.
