Joe Golego is remembered by area wrestling fans as one of F&M's standout wrestlers. His accomplishments were not best reflected in his tournament record, even though he finished second (1948 - 136 pounds) and third (1949) in the Easterns. During his career, he compiled a record of 36-3-2. Twenty-two of his victories were by falls an indication of his aggressive, crowd-pleasing style. In his senior year, he defeated George Lewis of Waynesburg, who eventually won a 1951 NCAA championship. He was the teams MVP and won the Uncle Charlie Award in his senior year. Golego was noted as team captain during the 1946-47 and 1947-48 seasons.
