Eric Holmboe '81

Eric was one of those unique individuals that comes along onlyonce in a lifetime. He had the high school credentials to go to amajor track program, but chose F&M because of the pre-medreputation and the philosophy with which the athletic program wasconducted. During his four-year career, he became F&M's firstmen's cross country All American and he did it in each of his fouryears. In the process, he set numerous course records and cappedhis competitive career with a fifth place finish in the 1979 NCAADivision III Nationals. Holmboe was equally good in the sport oftrack where he excelled in the 1500 and 5000-meter runs.

He set school records in both events, qualified for the NCAADivision III National Championships three times in four years. Hissenior years, he finished fourth in the 5000-meter run to earn AllAmerican honors. At graduation in 1981, Holmboe, a chemistry majorand member of Black Pyramid, was awarded the Williamson Medal,which is the highest honor accorded to a graduating member of thesenior class. He was also named Phi Beta Kappa and received the"Outstanding Senior Athlete Man" award. He went on to the medicalschool at the University of Rochester. Following graduation, herelocated to the Philadelphia area where he is a physician at theNaval Hospital.
