George Crudden attended the F&M Academy before matriculatingat F&M. He graduated in 1931 with a double major in English andhistory. While he was a member of the F&M golf team for a shortwhile, it was as a sportswriter that he left his mark. He was anactive undergraduate writer serving as the editor of the F&MHullabaloo as well as serving as the sports information directorfor the college newspaper and as a sportswriter for the localnewspapers. He worked for the local papers and the college for27years before resigning his college position in 1954.

During his tenure at F&M, he was responsible for chroniclingearly athletic greats and saving articles and statistical datawhich are used to this day. No one person knows more about F&Msports than George Crudden. After leaving F&M, he became a fulltime sportswriter and editor for the Lancaster Newspapers. Whileretired for some time, Crudden is still a periodic contributingwriter for the local newspapers. He was a member of nationalbaseball, football, and basketball writers associations.

He also found time to be on the governor?s commission on aging,the mayor?s commission on aging, and the Lancaster IndustrialDevelopment Authority. He was inducted into the American Legion?sHall of Fame in 1970 and received the prestigious ?George KirchnerAward? from the Lancaster Sportswriters and SportscastersAssociation in 1971. If ever there was an ?All-American? award forsportswriters, George would be a recipient. George still lives anactive life in Lancaster, Pa.
