Walter Lenz '53

Walter Lenz is one of the few Franklin & Marshall athletes to boast nine varsity letters, three from basketball, baseball and soccer. In soccer, he was named an Second Team All-American selection following the 1951 season, then doubled it up with an Honorable Mention honor in 1952 as a goalkeeper.

In baseball, he was described as an outstanding pitcher and hitter. In basketball, he established a school record during the 1950-51 season by scoring 325 points. He also captained the 1952-53 team.

For both these sports, Lenz signed professional contracts; with the Lancaster Roses in basketball and the Milwaukee Braves in baseball.

He was also a graduate of the Air War College, and he also coached soccer and basketball at the Air Force Academy. He served in the Air Force all over the world, including Vietnam. Lenz further his education by earning an M.S. from the University of Colorado and is currently a colonel and Director of Personnel Programs and Tactical Air Commanding with the United States Air Force.
