Donald "Don" Martin was a soccer player and also a valuable member of the track team for three years. His specialty in track was the hurdles, and this is evidenced by his MAC record in the 120 high hurdles with a time of 14.5 seconds that still stands. He even bettered this mark to 14.4 seconds in a non-MAC meet against Army in Germany. He also held the college record in the 220 low hurdles and placed third in the Penn Relays Invitational Hurdles. Martin was undefeated in the high hurdles in regular season competition from 1955-1957.

He was chosen as the Outstanding Athlete for the graduating class of 1957.

Martin also served as a sergeant on the Army and was knighted a Kentucky colonel. He is still very close to the College, as he is the Associate Director of Admissions and resides in Lancaster.
