Schleif was a three-sport athlete, excelling in football undercoach Bob Curtis. He competed in Track & Field under BillIanacelli and basketball under Chuck Taylor. Schleif was a standoutwide receiver that rolled up numbers in a running-dominated erathat remain impressive today. In 1972, Schleif was an All-MiddleAtlantic Conference selection that helped the Diplomats to a 9-0record and the Lambert Trophy. In only three seasons, Schleif piledup 1,635 receiving yards. A school record at the time, it remainedseventh on the career chart at the time of his selection, nearly 40years after his graduation. His 114 career receptions were also arecord when he graduated and were sixth on the career charts whenhe was chosen for the hall. Ten of those catches ended in hisopponents' end zone, which was tied for third on the career list atthe end of his career. In 1970, he ranked sixth in NCAA DivisionIII in receiving yards. He caught 55 passes in 8 games for 700yards that season.
